Making Space Athlone present Avant Garde, a new family arts festival this Sunday, October 15 from 12pm to 5pm in the Prince of Wales Hotel, Athlone. The Mayor of Athlone, Cllr Aengus O’ Rourke will launch the event at 2pm.
The event is free for everyone and includes drawing and crafts, creating poetry and stories, photo frame, face painting and many more mysteries and suprises. Children will have an opportunity to participate in all the activities and play ‘Experimental Music’ on various instruments. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
After the launch, there will be performances of poetry, music, song, dance and drama. Jason Gill and Amy Barry will perform poems with musicians Aine O' Regan, Eva Coyle and Jason McDonnell. Sally Flicker will appear with some interesting and unique dance moves. Eva Coyle, a talented musician/singer will also sing a song and Martin Kelleher will present a short drama.
Young writer, Mia Samovich who recently appeared recently on the Ray D’Arcy show, will present some storytelling for children.
Chairperson of Making Space Artists Collective, Amy Barry on behalf of the group extended her appreciation to Westmeath County Council and Creative Ireland for their continued support.
"We are also grateful to Athlone Community Radio who will broadcast live at the event," she said.
"We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Philip Mann for the design of the Avant Garde poster; and to our members and young volunteers for all of the hard work and dedication provided towards this event," she added.
