REVEALED: Who got what in sports capital grants today

A number of clubs and organisations have received sports capital grants funding this morning.

The largest allocation in this area went to Garrycastle GAA received grant aid of €95,000 towards the erection of an all weather training pitch, fencing and lights.

€65,000 was allocate to Athlone Boat Club for a boat house development.

GAA clubs topped the list, with Athlone GAA receiving €52,500 for a multipurpose Fitness Centre, while in South Roscommon, Padraig Pearses received €58,500 for the development of a multi-faceted community sport facility.

Elsewhere Willow park FC received €46,500 for a clubhouse development project, St Brigid;s GAA received €35,000 for the construction of a gym while Clonown Community Clubhouse project received €31,000.

€29,000 was allocated for new pitch development and walking track at Moore Soccer Club,” stated Cllr Naughten and €25,239 for course maintenance equipment at Athlone Golf Club.

€35,000 for the construction of a gym at St Brigid’s GAA and €16,500 to upgrade facilities at Tisrara Community Park.

Minister of State Kevin 'Boxer' Moran said he was delighted that so many clubs and organisations were able to benefit from this year’s funding allocations. Longford got over €500,000 in funding, the highest in many years while Westmeath obtained almost €1m in grant aid.

In relation to Roscommon, Cllr John Naughten said:

"These grants are a vote of confidence in local sporting groups and organisations and will assist in developing top quality recreational and sporting facilities throughout the area.”
