All 29 local qualifiers for the Western Regional finals of Junk Kouture
Some 29 entries from this area have reached the Western regional finals of the Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture competition.
Selected to contest the Western regional final on March 7 in the Helix, Dublin, were ten entries each from Moate Community School and Our Lady's Bower, two each from Athlone Community College and Mercy Secondary School, Ballymahon, Ardscoil Mhuire in Ballinasloe and one from Colaiste Chiarain and Mercy Secondary School, Ballinasloe.
Some 80 entries were chosen throughout the western region based on photos of students modelling their creations and a written summary about the materials used and the inspiration behind the garment. All designs selected for the regional finals are picked by a panel of judges.Another Our Lady's Bower entry, 'Moo' by Mary Brody, secured one of four precious lifelines (one for each region) on offer, via a popular vote, to entries who missed out on selection by the judges for the semi-finals.
Voting for qualification to the grand final is now open and closes on Friday, February 23. The public vote counts as 10% of the overall vote.
Each model will have 60 seconds to impress the judging panel at the regional finals, which, in the case of the western region, take place in the Helix on March 7.
