Choir from Texas performing with Athlone Choral Society tonight

A choir from Texas will be performing at a St Patrick's week concert in Athlone this evening (Thursday).

The Amarillo Girl Concert Choir is appearing with the Athlone Choral Society at the special event which is taking place in the Franciscan Friary at 8pm.

The two groups made contact over the internet and arrangements were made for the local concert, which will feature a selection of music designed to suit all ages and tastes.

The Associate Director of the Amarillo choir, BJ Brooks, has composed a song to commemorate their trip to Ireland.

The song is called 'The Wild Atlantic Way' and it will be performed with the Athlone Choral Society on the night.

Founded in 1995, the Athlone Choral Society is an active community choir with members from many of the surrounding counties.

Under Musical Director Andrius Kozlovskis, the choir gives two main performances every year, one at Christmas and another in May.

The choir practices in St Peter's Hall in Athlone every Monday at 7.15pm, and new members are always welcome.

Tickets for tonight's concert are priced €10 and will be available at the door. For more information, call 087 2590660.
