Operation Transformation professor to speak at science conference in Athlone

The Irish Science Teachers' Association is holding its annual conference in Athlone from tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday. 

The event is being hosted by the North Midlands branch of the ISTA and will attract science teachers from all over Ireland.

The opening ceremony will be held in the Sheraton Hotel on Friday evening, with Dr Niall Moyna, of Operation Transformation fame, delivering a lecture entitled “From the womb to the tomb- the role of physical activity”.

The main events of the weekend take place on Saturday in Athlone IT, where there will be a full day of lectures and workshops given by both national and international lecturers. 

These will include “What is Life?” by Professor Luke O'Neill from TCD and a lecture on the anti-microbial activity of Honey by Dr. Dr. James Brennan from Sligo I.T.

There will also be a workshop on CBAs and SLARs, which will be of great interest to Junior Cert science teachers.

Running concurrently will be a full programme of events for primary teachers.

Events will come to a close on Sunday morning with a Chemistry Magic Show at 11:30 which is open to all!

There will also be a huge exhibition in the AIT on Saturday by Ireland's leading scientific suppliers and educational book companies.
