Gardai renew appeal for information on tragic Ballinasloe collision

Gardai have today (Wednesday) renewed their appeal for information on last week's road traffic collision which claimed the lives of two popular local women who had been out walking in Ballinasloe. 

The incident occurred on Thursday last at Station Road in Ballinasloe.

The two victims, Maureen Dooley and Deirdre Kilmartin, were laid to rest this week. Ms Dooley had been a valued member of the teaching staff in Athlone's Marist College for the last 22 years. 

In a statement issued to the media today, Gardai said they were particularly keen to speak to "anyone who may have travelled on the R358, Station Road, Ballinasloe immediately prior to the collision or to any person who may have witnessed the collision."

The incident happened at approximately 5.40pm on Thursday.

"The scene is located close to Ballinasloe Train Station and would have been busy at the time," said the Gardai.
