Good news for Ballinasloe . . .

Local Minister Denis Naughten has confirmed an €8.6 million investment in flood relief works in Ballinasloe town.
The announcement, which was made this morning by Minister Kevin Boxer Moran and An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will significantly address the flood risks in Ballinasloe – which has been badly affected by flooding in recent years - and builds on the works taking place on the Shannon itself south of where it meets the River Suck.
“These works which are removing blockages on the Shannon have a direct impact on flooding south of the town of Ballinasloe,” said Minister Naughten this morning.

Consultants will now be engaged for detailed design of the Ballinasloe flood relief scheme.

This investment comes on top of over €400,000 allocated in conjunction with Minister Sean Canney for flood relief measures in Ballinasloe, South Roscommon and East Galway since the Government was formed two years ago.
"Other projects throughout County Roscommon and East Galway are currently under consideration and further work will take place along the River Shannon over the coming months which will have a direct impact on flooding problems along the River Suck and River Shannon," said Minister Naughten.
