Water restrictions in Athlone again.

BREAKING: More water restrictions in Athlone

New water restrictions will hit Athlone on Wednesday night

Irish Water says there will be no water supply, between 8pm Wednesday and 8am Thursday for customers in parts of Athlone Town, Garrycastle, Dublin Road, Ardnaglug, Fardrum, Moydrum, Blyry, Killyon Hill, Bonavalley, Annagh, Baylin, Mount Temple and Ories areas.

This is to allow water levels in the Annagh reservoir to refill.

A water supply will be maintained to Athlone town centre and the west side of the town.

Irish Water said the problem was due to an electrical fault at the local water treatment plant.

As a result, water levels in reservoirs were very low.

"As a result, restrictions are required to allow water levels in the Annagh reservoir, supplying customers in parts of Athlone Town, Annagh, Baylin, Mount Temple and Ories areas, to continue to refill."

“This action is being taken to ensure that there is an adequate quantity of water available to supply industries, schools, residences and commercial activities during business hours.”

Customers are being asked to conserve water.

Updates will also be posted to the supply and service section of Irish Water’s website at www.water.ie/water-supply/s upply-and-service-update/
