More than 2,300 homes left without power this morning

MORE than 2,300 customers were left without power for a short period this morning, but the ESB says that power has now been restored to all those affected.

The outage occurred at 8.25am and power was restored by 9am. Homes and businesses on the western side of Athlone and in parts of south Roscommon were hit.

The ESB says that the outage was possibly due to lightning damage on the line between Athlone and Ballinasloe.

It followed an outage in the same area at 5.20pm yesterday. Power was restored to most customers within a short period. Around 10 customers were left without power overnight.

A spokesman for the ESB apologised for any inconvenience caused by the outages. “We are continuing to investigate the cause of the fault. It was possibly caused by lightning,” he said.
