Free parking to encourage Christmas shopping in Athlone

Free parking will be available for the week before Christmas in council-owned car parks in Athlone in a bid to encourage shopping in the town. 

The inittaitive comes into effect on Monday next, December 17, and continues up to and including Christmas eve.

The free parking is available in council car parks only - on-street parking is not included. On-street parking is free after 6.30pm daily, and all day on Sundays. 

There are almost 500 car parking spaces in council car parks including Pearse Street and the Fair Green.

The council said "some parking duration restrictions may apply" during the free parking promotion.
