The driver's of an articulated lorry, top picture, and a saloon car, bottom, had narrow escapes from injury following seperate accidents in Mullingar over the weekend. The artic overturned outside the Fire Station in Clonmore early on Saturday evening while the car was caught by a falling tree at Millmount Road on Friday evening last. The lorry driver, a local man, escaped without serious injury. Apart from striking the car, the tree also brought down power lines and caused a blackout in the Millnount and Ballinderry areas. The Gardai along with ESB repair crews were quickly on the scene and power was restored, Westmeath Examiner News, July 2000
