Formal launch planned for local culture night event

Westmeath County Council will hold a Culture Night on September 24.
The event will be launched on Tuesday, August 24, at the Atrium County Buildings in Mullingar at 5.30pm and the council has extended an open invite to the people of Westmeath to the launch.
Westmeath County Council Arts Officer, Catherine Kelly is urging people to attend the launch on August 24, which promises to set the scene for September 24 when wonder and excitement will fill the streets of Westmeath.
The public are invited to this celebration launch of Culture Night. This is the first year that Westmeath has taken part in the national event and 72 events have been planned for September. The launch on August 24 will give locals the opportunity to discover Culture Night in their area, as the programme of events will be officially unveiled.
The Culture Night launch will take place on Tuesday August 24 at The Atrium, County Buildings, Mullingar at 5.30pm where the Energy School of Dance will be one of the many acts to showcase their talent on the night.
While this is the first time Culture Night is being held in Westmeath the event has been running since 2006 in other counties around Ireland including Dublin, which saw more than 150,000 people attend some 120 venues last year.
The event is an initiative of the Temple Bar Cultural Trust and is part sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport and Westmeath County Council.
