Strong Westmeath presence lined up for All-Ireland fleadh

Thursday, 16th August, 2012 4:05pm

Westmeath Comhaltas branches will be very well represented at the 2012 All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil taking place for the third year running in Cavan Town this weekend 17th-19th August.

All of the competitors have worked very hard to reach this stage having qualified from county and provincial level.

Among the youngest participants are Ben Keary, from Ballynacargy CCÉ, representing the county in U12 banjo, and Aoife Farrelly, of Clann Lir CCÉ, who is entered in the U12 ladies singing in English.

The St Malachy's dancers from Castletown Geoghegan are taking part in the ladies full set, aged 15-18, and the 15-18 mixed full set and the mixed half set.

Audrey Murphy is entered in the senior whistle, flute, whistle airs, flute airs and fiddle airs competitions, while Matt Scally of Moate CCÉ is to represent Westmeath in the senior mouth organ competition.

Singing in the category for newly-composed songs in English will be Dick Stokes of Castletown Geoghegan CCÉ.
