Developers claim 300 jobs could be lost by ten-storey plan refusal
Athlone could have lost out on 300 new jobs at a result of the council's rejection of a rezoning proposal to facilitate a ten-storey building at Station Road on Monday, a spokesperson for the developers behind the plans claimed this week.

Controversial plans to rezone a site on Station Road, Athlone, to facilitate the construction of a new ten-storey building were defeated at a special meeting of Athlone Town Council on Monday last after the proposal failed to get the support of the required six members.

"Quiet, gentle Mairt O'Gorman" laid to rest
A large crowd turned out in St Peter and Paul's Church, Athlone on Monday last to bid a final, poignant farewell to Martin O'Gorman, who died tragically on June 27 last in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, a week after he was the victim of a vicious assault in Navan.

Fears tractors could clog up Athlone roads

Two Knockcroghery Roses are Tralee-bound
There is set to be a mass exodus from the Knockcroghery area later this summer as locals will have two Roses, both from the Ballymurray area, to cheer on at the world famous festival after Liverpool Rose Aine Shine was one of the contingent to make it out of the Regional Finals in Portlaoise last weekend.

Application expected for €80m Sth Ros wind farm within months
