Throwing the Perfect Party

Party season is fast approaching so there is something to look forward to and focus on as the nights get darker and colder. There is no need to wait to begin celebrating though. Why not get the party season started earlier, throw a bash and get everyone cheered up and in the mood for some dancing.

One great way to get everyone really in to the party mood is to make fancy dress mandatory. This means they will have to begin thinking about it beforehand which will give them a chance to get excited. Different costumes are always a great talking point and can help break the ice between people who do not know each other so well.

A Themed Night

It is good to get the ideas flowing by specifying a theme. Keep it quite broad so people do not have too much trouble finding a costume as this may put them off putting all the effort in. Also this gives people a choice as to how much money, if any, they will spend. Whether you are planning on hiring a venue or are brave enough to make your home the site of the festivities you can decorate the room in a way that relates to the theme.

If it is a family oriented party it is a great idea to prepare some games relating to the theme for the kids to play as this will keep them entertained and hopefully out of trouble. You will only need something to get them started; once they get going their imaginations will keep them occupied for hours.

Putting Together a Costume

If you are busy or a bit lazy it is easy to buy fancy dress costumes online. However it is much more fun to get creative and put together your own. You will probably want to spend as little money as possible if you are not planning on wearing your costume particularly often. Start off with what you've already got. Dig out any old clothes that may be a slightly weird style, or that you don't mind cutting or tearing.

Try some different combinations of these, work out what it is that you look most like and then continue to build your costume from there. Your next port of call ought to be charity shops to find any additional items of clothing you may need for just a few pounds. Once you are fully clothed the fun starts with the accessories. Think outside the box; see if you can modify general household items, transforming them into the props of your choice. A bit of glue and a lick of paint can completely change even the most commonplace items.
