The Roscommon Branch I.S.R.S were the recipients of a joint sponsorship venture involving the Roscommon & District League, Tesco Ireland Ltd., and the Roscommon Branch I.S.R.S held in Lecarrow last week.

The Roscommon Branch was formed in 1976 and among the longest serving members are current Chairman Tom Grenham, Treasurer Tom Cormican, Owen Brennan, Frank Daly, Noel Parkes. Also in this society are father and daughter combination Frank and Rhona Daly, Rhona has travelled extensively throughout Europe where she referees games at the highest level, and in the close season referees games in the local League.

The newer generation include three referees who officiate at the League of Ireland level as well as the local level, they are E. Deering, D. Toland J. Dermody, There are many referees who have given sterling service to Association Football every week and also provide their services to local schoolboy football, and without whom football could not go ahead. These include the current Secretary of the Roscommon Branch Eugene Collins, other members include J. Brooks, M. Nolan W. Stokes, R. Stokes, M. Hatchett, N. Larkin M. Loftus, S. O'Brien S. Fogarty S. Caulfield, A. McDonnell.

The recent appointment of Referees Assessor Tony Kelly has proven to be of massive benefit to the Branch, as Tony brings with him his years of experience gained as a senior referee at League of Ireland level, and also of huge benefit to the branch is the practical knowledge and great common sense methods that Tony shares with his colleagues at branch level. Tony is highly regarded in League of Ireland circles and has many contacts at the highest level and it is hoped that he decides to stay with the Roscommon Branch to further improve the already high standard of Referee available to the local League.

A special word of thanks to Gerry Fitzgibbon of O'Neill's Sport who are the main kit sponsors to the Roscommon & District League as well as the Roscommon Branch I.S.R.S. The items of sponsorship received were a full kit, comprising jersey togs, socks, tracksuit and kit bag.
