Maryland seal semi-final berth

Maryland sealed a Westmeath senior football championship semi final berth for the first time since 1966 thanks to a gritty win over Castledaly in this quarter-final replay at Cusack Park last Saturday. The Drumraney side are now preparing to face Westmeath and Leinster champions Garrycastle in the penultimate round at the same venue next Sunday. On the other hand, this was a disappointing exit for Castledaly, who played some fine football in this year's championship but struggled to maintain the high notes over 60 plus minutes. Castledaly's raced into an early advantage thanks to two goals in the first ten minutes but Maryland gradually got on top, particularly in the second half and carved out a five-point advantage before Castledaly rattled off four late points. But Maryland held on to win 2-9 to 2-8.
