Mixed results for local Gaelic football sides

Dessie Dolan was on the losing side in Sunday's Westmeath SFC final replay at Cusack Park, as Mullingar Shamrocks won the title.

THERE was mixed results for local Gaelic football teams in several crucial matches last weekend, with Garrycastle the most high-profile losers in the replay of this year's Westmeath SFC final.

Bidding for a fourth straight county title, Garrycastle were defeated by 0-12 to 1-8 by Mullingar Shamrocks in last Sunday's replay at Cusack Park.

In the curtain-raiser to the senior replay, Athlone overcame Coralstown-Kinnegad in the U16 county final.

St Brigid's advanced comfortably in the Connacht Club SFC, beating Leitrim's Melvin Gaels, but their ladies couldn't overcome the class of Carnacon in the Connacht Ladies SFC decider.
