Frankie Dolan ... his freetaking prowess was again to the fore in St Brigid's win over Salthill/Knocknacarra.

Brigid's march on to another Connacht final

By Kieran Galvin St Brigid's are just one victory away from a third successive Connacht club title following their 0-15 to 0-8 win over Salthill/Knocknacarra at Pearse Stadium last Sunday. The scoring prowess of Frankie Dolan and Senan Kilbride proved crucial to the outcome with the attacking duo scoring 0-11 between them, while Karol Mannion led the way with an accomplished display at midfield. The Galway side defeated St Brigid's in the 2005 Connacht final but the men from Kiltoom and Cam were the masters in last weekend's encounter at Salthill. St Brigid's will face Mayo champions Ballaghaderreen in the Connacht final on Sunday week, November 25. Ballaghaderreen overcame Curry of Sligo in the other semi-final (1-15 to 1-7). Brigid's won last year's Connacht final on home turf, but the Kiltoom side will have to travel to McHale Park in Castlebar for this year's provincial decider. Meanwhile, Westmeath champions Mullingar Shamrocks were comprehensively defeated by Ballymun Kickhams of Dublin in the Leinster club championship (2-13 to 0-7). Garrycastle became the first Westmeath team to win a Leinster senior club title last year, but the Lake County's interest in this year's competition has been ended at the first hurdle. Shamrocks' defeat means all Westmeath's representatives have now been knocked out of this year's Leinster club championships. *See this week's Westmeath Independent for full coverage of the St Brigid's v Salthill/Knocknacarra match.
