Venues and times confirmed for U21 football finals
AFTER much toing and froing, the venues and times for this weekend's two Westmeath U21 Football Finals (at 15 and 13-a-side respectively) have finally been rubberstamped. The main event, the 15-a-side affair ('A' final) between Athlone and Maryland-Tang, was originally scheduled for this coming Sunday, but has now being rearranged for this Friday evening at 8pm in Tubberclair. Meanwhile, the meeting of Castledaly and Tyrellspass in the 13-a-aide final has been rescheduled for Friday evening in Lakepoint Park, Mullingar (7.30pm). The refixed fixture comes after a frustrating run of events. The game was initially pencilled in for last Sunday week in Moate, but word emerged a day before the game that it had been postponed due to the unavailability of a suitable pitch It was then played at Lakepoint Park last Friday, but had to be abandoned at half-time due to the dense shroud of fog engulfing the ground (See this week's Westmeath Independent for comment piece from Kieran Galvin).
