Marist College retain Connacht Senior League crown

The Marist College senior rugby team has successfully defended its Connacht School's Seniior League title.

THE Marist College's recent domination of Connacht Schools' rugby continued yesterday (Wednesday), when its senior team retained the Connacht Schools' Senior League trophy.

The Marist defeated Sligo Grammar School 13-0 in the final at Ballyhaunis, and will now prepare for the defence of their Connacht Schools' Senior Cup title, which they won so impressively earlier this year.

The Athlone school's junior team also won the Connacht Schools' Junior Premier League in late November, again beating Sligo Grammar in the final.

Rugby at the Athlone college has prospered greatly in recent years, with the captain of last season's Connacht Senior double-winning team, Robbie Henshaw, progressing to play regularly for Connacht's senior outfit this campaign.
