Athlone IT secure coveted Sigerson Finals place

WITH the Finals Weekend of this year's Irish Daily Mail Sigerson Cup taking place in Athlone IT next weekend - February 22 and 23 - the home team ensured they would be part of the festivities with a quarter-final defeat of Cork IT on Thursday night. Westmeath stars Ger Egan and Kieran Martin both scored three points as Martin McCabe's side beat a fancied Cork IT outfit on a 0-11 to 1-4 scoreline. Tubberclair's Alan Coffey was also on the scoresheet as Athlone pulled-off a somewhat surprise win. Athlone IT will now play UCC in the semi-finals next Friday (February 22), with DCU and DIT meeting in the other semi-final the same day.
