London calling for Westmeath hurlers

Westmeath hurlers are facing a trip across channel to take on London in the preliminary round of the All-Ireland SHC Qualifiers.

If Brian Hanley's charges manage to negotiate that assignment, they will face Offaly or Waterford in Phase 1.

Antrim - who ended Westmeath's interest in the Leinster SHC, before they were subsequently knocked out by Laois - will face the loser of this Saturday evening's replay between Dublin and Wexford at Parnell Park.

The draw took place on RTE Radio 1 this morning (Monday). It was composed of teams beaten before the semi-final stages of the provincial championships, so Tipperary, who were beaten by Limerick yesterday in the Munster semi-final, were not in the draw.

The teams who advance from the Preliminary Round games will then play in Phase 1. Carlow got a bye to Phase 1. Fixture details for all games will be confirmed in due course.

The draw is as follows.

Preliminary Round (Ties played on Saturday, June 22):

Offaly v Waterford
Losers of Wexford/Dublin v Antrim
London v Westmeath

Phase 1 (Ties played on Saturday, June 29)

Wexford/Dublin/Antrim v Carlow
London/Westmeath v Offaly/Waterford
