SSE Airtricity League Premier Division Preview: Sligo Rovers v Athlone Town

ATHLONE Town’s quest for Premier Division survival continues tomorrow night (Saturday) when they take on Sligo Rovers in The Showgrounds (7.45pm).

Sean Brennan will be unavailable through suspension, while Aidan Collins continues to miss out after shoulder surgery.

However, Athlone’s recent injury woes seem to be abating and Sam O’Connor, a centre-forward recently with Hull City, has received his international clearance to join the Athlone effort.

Athlone are currently five points behind second from bottom UCD with eleven matches remaining in the season. However, UCD are due to host Bohemians tonight (Friday). The Town are six points adrift of tenth placed Bray Wanderers, who lost, 4-1, against Limerick last night (Thursday).

Sligo will be without their top striker Danny North for tomorrow’s match through suspension, but could give home debuts to Eamon Zayed and Daryl Kavanagh, while former Athlone player Iarfhlaith Davoren, who recently returned to Sligo from Cork City, is expected to feature at left-back for the Bit O’Red.
