Important fixture amendments in westmeath sfc

THE final of this year’s Westmeath Senior Football Championship has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 26 at Cusack Park, Mullingar.

Athlone side Garrycastle sealed a place in the county decider last Sunday by beating Coralstown-Kinnegad (1-14 to 0-6), but the other semi-final between St Loman’s and Mullingar Shamrocks finished all-square at 0-12 apiece. The replay between the two Mullingar sides was originally due to take place this Wednesday evening. However, a brief statement from the County Board today said that ‘after further consideration of the fixtures plan this morning, it has been decided that the fixture between Mullingar Shamrocks and St Loman’s will now take place on Sunday, October 12 - with the Senior Football Final moving to October 26’.

Meanwhile, Caulry secured a place in their third successive Westmeath Intermediate Football Final with victory against Tang in last weekend’s semi-final replay (0-10 to 0-9). Caulry will now face Rosemount this coming Sunday in Cusack Park in the intermediate final. Moate All-Whites are also in county final action on Sunday when they face Multyfarnham in the junior decider. Elsewhere last weekend, St Brigid’s made sure of yet another Roscommon Senior Football Championship final appearance after disposing of Western Gaels in the semi-finals. Report also in this week’s Westmeath Independent.
