Can athlone put their financial woes behind them in first home game

ATHLONE Town FC will try to put their financial woes behind them by registering a first win of the season against Cobh Ramblers tonight (7.45pm).

The Town started their SSE Airtricity League First Division campaign with a 1-1 draw at Waterford Utd last Friday. Garbhan Coughlan put Athlone in front in the opening half but a 94th minute equaliser denied new manager Eddie Wallace on an opening day victory.

A few days after the Waterford game, the club issued a press release to announce a Public Meeting in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone for next Thursday, March 19 (8.30) to discuss the club’s current financial plight. In the statement, the club said they want to discuss interest levels in the town to continue the club’s involvement at League of Ireland level.
