Westmeath gaa set to hold open night in cusack park

Westmeath GAA is holding its annual open night this evening (Thursday, May 7) from 6.30pm in Cusack Park, Mullingar.

This is an opportunity for supporters – particularly younger fans – to meet and greet county players in a relaxed atmosphere at Westmeath GAA HQ.

Players from the senior county panels in both football and hurling will be present, and there will be an open training session with the hurlers afterwards which all patrons can view.

The event has been organised in conjunction with the commencement of the 2015 Leinster Senior Football & Hurling Championships.

The Westmeath senior footballers are currently preparing for their Leinster SFC opening round clash against Louth in Drogheda on Sunday, May 17.

Last night (Wednesday), Westmeath continued their preparations with a challenge match against Offaly, a game which the Lake men won in Walsh Island. However, it is the result in Drogheda which will surely define Westmeath’s season as Tom Cribbin’s charges try to put their League woes behind them following their relegation from Division 2.

Meanwhile, having defeated Carlow last weekend, the Westmeath hurlers are getting ready to face Antrim in a Leinster SHC round robin clash at Cusack Park this Sunday (3.30pm).

The Westmeath minor hurlers will take on Wexford in a Leinster quarter-final on Saturday. Fionn Dowd of Southern Gaels is part of the Westmeath squad and he has featured in the previous round wins over Wicklow and Carlow.
