St Peter's defender Scott Delaney was injured in Wednesday's penultimate league fixture.

Willow and peters all set for title showdown

McCARTHY Park in Athlone will be the scene for a battle royale on Sunday, as local rivals St Peter’s and Willow Park go head-to-head in the bid to lift this season’s CCFL Senior Division title.

St Peter’s 3-1 victory at Edenderry Town on Wednesday, in their penultimate league fixture, ensures the title chase goes right down to the wire, with the home side trying to thwart Willow’s bid for an amazing eighth straight Senior Division title.

However, the St Peter’s victory on Wednesday might have come at a cost after defender Scott Delaney sustained an injury that is likely to rule him out of the weekend’s match. St Peter’s have already been without striker Gary Stephens for the past three months after the former Melville Utd stalwart sustained a bad knee injury.

A draw will seal the deal for Willow, who currently lead the table by a point, but St Peter’s will be going all guns blazing to prevent such an outcome.

Recently, Willow have got the better of their fierce local rivals in both the Combined Counties Cup and Paddy Cotter Cup, while the side’s drew, 1-1, when they met, in Willow, in a league fixture earlier in the campaign. Kick-off on Sunday in McCarthy Park is scheduled for 2pm.
