Padraig pearses get ready to bid for world record

Padraig Pearses GAA Club, in south Roscommon, will strive to gain entry to the Guinness Book of Records by attempting to break the world record for holding the biggest Gaelic football training session.

The attempt, to be held in association with Hogarty’s Flooring and DIY, Woodmount, Ballinasloe, will take place on Saturday, August 22 in the club grounds in Woodmount (5pm).

The current record is held by the Roche Emmett’s club in Louth with 1,204 participants. This is the number Padraig Pearses GAA must beat on the day.

The session will be both a major social event and fundraiser for the club. Cost to attend is €5 per child and €10 per adult. Tickets are available to register in the club every night from 8pm onwards or from club members or players.

As well as the world record attempt, there will be loads of entertainment on the evening, such as fun games for all ages, music and food.

The world record attempt is open to everyone in the community (not just club members) regardless of age or fitness ability and the session will not be to taxing.

Participants do not have to be part of Padraig Pearses or any other GAA club and do not need to have previous experience of training with or playing with a GAA team, as this is a fun session to be enjoyed by all. There will be no strenuous activities and the aim is to get as many groups of 50 people as possible into segments of the pitch.
