Moate CS march on to book historic Leinster final place

A first half goal from Robbie Forde yesterday (Wednesday) helped Moate Community School book their place in the Leinster Schools SF 'A' Championship final.

It's the first time the school has reached the final in its current incarnation as Moate Community School, and Peter Tormey's charges are now bidding to become the first Westmeath side to win the championship in nine years.

In yesterday's semi final in Stradbally, Moate overcame the highly-rated Good Counsel, New Ross.

After leading by two points at the interval, the local side ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-8.

They will now face St Peter's College, Wexford, in the final, which is due to be played on Saturday, January 28, at a venue which has yet to be confirmed.

The last Westmeath team to achieve provincial success at this level was Athlone Community College in 2008.
