Mixed results in big local soccer games

THERE was very much a mixed outcome for two local soccer teams competing in high-level competition last weekend.

In the hugely coveted FAI Junior Cup, Ballinasloe Town, after a superb cup run, bowed out of the competition at the quarter-final stage to Kilbarrack Utd at the Curragh Grounds on Saturday evening. Over in Tullamore, at Leah Victoria Park, Athlone outfit Willow Park defeated midlands' neighbours Tullamore Town inthe last 32 of the Leinster Junior Cup.

Ironically, Willow Park will now meet Kilbarrack Utd in the last 16 of the Leinster Junior Cup this coming Friday 9time TBA). Elsewhere in soccer action last weekend, Athlone Town was held to a draw at home to Cobh Ramblers in the Airtricity League First Division.
