The 2016 Westmeath Independent Sports Awards is now just over a week away - as tickets remain on sale for the event which will take place in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel (main sponsors), Athlone on Friday evening, March 3.

Two local businesses - Action Physio and Byrne Carolan Cunningham Solicitors - have come on board as associate sponsors of the Westmeath Independent Sports Awards.

Friends and family members of the sports award winners - and indeed the general public - are welcome to attend the sports awards function and tickets will be on sale at the Westmeath Independent offices on Sean Costello Street, Athlone this week.

For ticket enquiries or to reserve tickets, please contact 090 6434300. Tickets are priced at €45 but a special offer is in place whereby people receive two free tickets when purchasing four tickets. Respected RTÉ presenter/producer Robbie Irwin will act as MC for the gala awards ceremony.
As the countdown to the awards night continues, you have the chance to cast for vote for the Readers' Choice Award.

The 12 monthly winners will be presented with their awards at the gala function. An overall winner will be chosen from the 12 monthly winners, while readers have the opportunity to cast their vote for the Readers’ Choice Award .

The overall Sports Star of the Year and Readers’ Choice Award winner will be revealed on the night. Both of these awards will be selected from the group of monthly award winners.

In addition, a Hall of Fame Award winner will be revealed in advance of the event.

The twelve monthly winners are: January: Paul Gallen; February: Corey Reid; March: Sophie and Rebecca Lowe; April: Natasya Barry; May: Ardnagrath NS soccer team; June: James Dolan; July: Rachel Keane; August: Robbie Benson; September: Kenny Okungbowa and Mikey Stokes; October: Carla McManus, Heather Payne and Chloe Singleton; November: Boidu Sayeh and Enda Boland; December: Anna McGann.
