RTÉ celebrates 50 years

RTÉ, as proud sponsor of the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival, is delighted to announce an unmissable schedule of TV and radio programming for the annual festival, opening on Friday, 1 May and running until Saturday, 9 May in the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone, Co. Westmeath.

An RTÉ Radio highlight is the all-important adjudicator reviews which will be delivered on the station"s special drama reports broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1"s Marian Finucane or The Ronan Collins Show each day during the Festival.

This year is particularly special because it marks the 50th anniversary of the first performance of John B. Keane"s Sive by the Listowel Drama Group which won them first place at the All Ireland Drama Festival in 1959. RTÉ"s Mooney will pay tribute to this special occasion on Wednesday, 6 May when they broadcast live from Athlone and RTÉ"s Nationwide will dedicate an entire programme to Sive @ 50 on Monday, 11 May which will also include highlights of all the excitement and tension from the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival Gala Awards ceremony. The RTÉ Guide is marking the event with a free CD-ROM of RTÉ Radio"s recording of John B. Keane"s Sive with study notes for students which will be available from 5 May. Please see below for RTÉ"s full programming schedule.
