Labradors rehomed as nine more pups taken in
The Athlone Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has rehomed all eleven Labrador puppies that were brought to the dog sanctuary four weeks ago. However, the puppies had not even left the centre when ASPCA Inspector Paul McCormack got a phone call about another litter of puppies that needed a home. Mr McCormack told the Westmeath Independent this week he took in the litter of nine puppies and their mother on Monday, just two days after the Labrador puppies went home with their new owners. The mother had been found wandering by a local farmer a couple of weeks ago. He had fed her and two weeks ago she had the litter of nine puppies. The puppies will remain at the sanctuary in Tang until the new year. Puppies cannot be rehomed until they are eight weeks old and these puppies will not be eight weeks old December 20 and due to the ASPCA"s policy of not rehoming puppies over the Christmas period the puppies will remain at the sanctuary until January 6 at the earliest. Mr McCormack added that the ASPCA had the busiest weekend for rehoming dogs last weekend, having rehomed the eleven Labradors and a further three dogs. He said the society had taken in five litters of puppies this year and now has 40 dogs at the sanctuary in Tang.
