Kieran Hunt Cup a huge success at ACC

The Kieran Hunt Cup is a Gaelic football competition for first and second year students at Athlone Community College. Named after a former teacher at the college, the Kieran Hunt Cup is a much cherished competition. This year, up to 150 students took part and the competition was blessed with glorious weather. The competition was won by a team captained by Eoin McCormack, defeating a team captained by Nigel Kelly in a superb final. Indeed, only one point separated the teams when referee James McGrath called a halt after a splendid match (4-10 to 3-12). The competition was organised by coaches Chris Forde and Eunan Martin under the direction of Head of Sport Conor Foley. Mr. Foley was delighted with the enthusiasm of all players, stating that all players in first and second year had got several games, and that this would be extremely beneficial to their long term development. The cup was presented by Val O'Connor, Principal, who spoke of being delighted with the high standard of football on view. Without doubt, the future of Gaelic football is assured in Athlone CC. All final participants were presented with sports jackets and medals.
