Back-to-work programmes information day for Athlone
The Irish Centre for Business Excellence (ICBE) in conjunction with City & Guilds will hold an Information Day in the Prince of Wales Hotel in Athlone on Wednesday, May 8 next from 10am to 1pm.
The aim of the event is to inform jobseekers about the innovative business process improvement programme, offering a fresh start to graduates and professionals who have been unemployed for 12 months or more.
The programme has been designed to create genuine job opportunities by helping participants to re-focus their talents and revitalise their skills through formal training and one-to-one mentoring.
The programmes will suit those looking for job opportunities in areas of business support such as administration, systems, customer service, project management, procurement, management, supply chain management and organisational support. Participants will also be provided with the training and contacts needed to secure employment.
The programme is full-time over a period of 20 weeks and combining 16 employability training with technical training which will provide qualifications from both City & Guilds and the Institute of Leadership and Management and is followed by 16 weeks directed work placement.
Speaking about the programme available in Athlone, local mentor Nuala Greenan explained that since the programme launched we have seen strong interest from a very broad range of professionals including managers, accountants, administrators, sales executives, architects, buyers, engineers and others from the hospitality, retail and construction sectors.
“These are typically people who never expected to be unemployed and many of them are highly skilled and have a significant amount of transferable skills, qualifications and experience. In some cases they simply need an opportunity to apply these to a different industry or sector,” she commented.
“My role as mentor is to work with each participant to find a suitable work placement where both existing skills and new knowledge acquired on the programme can be applied. I will also help them implement a successful project in their work placement and support their efforts to gain employment on completion of the programme,” Nuala added.
The courses will give participants skills they can apply to any work situation in any business sector. Each programme will embrace training in personal development and leadership, helping those who are unemployed to regain the self-confidence and resilience to obtain employment. ICBE previously delivered the ‘Begin Again’ programme which showed the impact that training and support can have in assisting someone who is unemployed find a meaningful work opportunity.”
