Athlone Town take first point of First Division campaign

Athlone Town took their first point of the disrupted Airtricity League First Division season with a 2-2 draw away to Galway United last night (Monday).

However, an 88th minute equaliser resulted in the home side pegging back Adrian Carberry's men for the second time in an entertaining encounter.

Taner Dogan opened the scoring with a neat header on 22 minutes before an error by Town keeper Aaron Myles gifted Mikey Place the equaliser on 41 minutes.

Town were back in front when youngster Adam Lennon was quickest to respond firing home a rebound off the post on 59 minutes.

But hopes of an Athlone win were dashed when Francely Lomboto snatched a late draw.

It was Athlone's first point of the season. And after four games, they remain bottom of the First Division.
