Ray Doyle memorial event benefits two worthy charities

The organisers of the Ray Doyle memorial scramble competition have expressed their thanks to all who participated in and supported the competition.

It was was held at Custume Pitch & Putt Club last month before Level 5 restrictions relating to Covid-19 came into effect.

Ray was a very accomplished and popular player on the pitch & putt course. His wife Bernie and the Doyle family thank Custume Pitch & Putt Club for holding this event in memory of Ray.

This was the second year that this memorial event took place. Ray loved playing pitch & putt at the Custume course. A remembrance birch tree was planted in his memory in 2019 and Ray's presence will always be felt at the course, where he was a legend to his colleagues.

Bernie and the Doyle family have congratulated the winners of the Ray Doyle Memorial Cup (nett prize): William Quigley, Terrie Pragnell and Ian Pragnell.

They say a special word of thanks to Davey Reddin, the Custume Pitch & Putt Club committee and all involved for their hard work. On the day a presentation was made on behalf of the club to Bernie and Ray's parents, Imelda and Billy, in memory of Ray which was much appreciated by the Doyle family.

The proceeds of the event went to South Westmeath Hospice and Galway Hospice Foundation, with a cheque for €250 going to each body (sent by post to the Galway hospice). An additional €370, given in donations, was divided among both charities.

Ray's wife Bernie, along with Imelda, Billy and family, express their sincere gratitude to all who helped organise the competition and to all those who took part in and supported the event.
