Sadness at passing of Mary Sheerin, mother of well-known musical family

There is much sadness in Westmeath and beyond about the passing this week of Mary Sheerin, mother of one the region's best-known musical families.

The 78-year-old from Maghera, The Pigeons, Athlone, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, yesterday (Tuesday).

She is loved and missed by her husband Dan, children Paul, Des, Janette, Ann, Danny, Noeleen, Kieran, Marian, Tom, Carmel and Simon, her 28 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Tess, nieces and nephews, sons and daughters-in-law, extended family and wide circle of neighbours and friends.

Mary is reposing at home until her removal on Thursday morning, and the house is strictly family-only.

A private family funeral will take place tomorrow (Thursday), with the funeral cortège leaving her home at 11.45am to arrive at St Mary's Church, Tang for a funeral Mass at 12 noon.

Family, neighbours and friends are welcome to line the route in a socially-distanced manner, and the Mass may be viewed online from the Tang Parish Facebook page, and locally on 105.3fm.
