Three arrested following armed robbery in Ferbane

Gardaí have arrested three men following an armed robbery in Ferbane this morning.

It happened at a convenience store in Ferbane around 6.40am this morning, when three men entered the premises "armed with a number of weapons", a statement from the Garda Press Office this evening confirmed.

They then "forced the two female staff members to hand over a quantity of cigarettes, alcohol and cash" before leaving the scene in a dark coloured vehicle.

The staff members did not require medical attention after the incident, the statement added.

In follow up searches today, three young men, one in his teens and two in their 20s, were arrested in Galway. They are all currently detained for questioning under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 in Garda stations across the Midlands.

Investigations into the incident today are ongoing.
