Gardaí launch witness appeal after local house fire

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses after a house fire in the Marine View estate on Monday.

Two units of Athlone Fire Service were called to a house in Marine View at approximately 9.54pm, where they spent over an hour and a half battling a blaze which had broken out at the house, which was unoccupied at the time. Fire Service personnel had to force entry into the house.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and local Gardaí are looking for witnesses to come forward with any information about the incident on Monday night.

A member of the Fire Service confirmed to the Westmeath Independent that “three separate locations of fire” were discovered inside the house, and a garda spokesperson said “all aspects of the fire” are currently “under investigation”.

Gardaí and members of the National Ambulance Service also attended the scene of the fire on Monday night.
