Moate CS ladies gear up for Leinster final

Moate Community School will take on Loreto St Michael’s, Navan in the Lidl Leinster Post-Primary Schools Senior ‘A’ football final this Wednesday, January 19.

The Coralstown/Kinnegad GAA grounds in Kinnegad has been chosen as the venue for the final, with a 11.30am throw-in.

Moate CS, the defending champions, advanced to the Leinster decider with a semi-final victory over old rivals Scoil Chríost Rí, Portlaoise in early December. Final score: 2-17 to 2-8.

Anna Sheerin (Cill Óige) and Kate Whyte (Milltown) scored the Moate CS goals against Scoil Chríost Rí. Garrycastle’s Shannon Mulvihill was top scorer with eight points, while Chloe Moran was impressive in defence.

The Navan side, who defeated Mercy, Ballymahon in their semi-final, have been fancied by many observers to win this year’s Leinster title. In that light, the Moate CS camp will know they must improve on their semi-final showing in this Wednesday’s provincial decider.

Last week, 2021 All-Ireland winning Westmeath captain Fiona Claffey and Moate CS past pupil Emma Kelly conducted a training session with the current MCS panel.
