Athlone African group hosts successful football tournament and family fun day

A community group for African people living in Athlone hosted a successful football tournament and family fun day last weekend.

The event was organised in partnership with Willow Park Football Club, and took place in the club's grounds on Saturday.

The football tournament involved 56 junior players (eight teams of seven players) and 48 adult players (eight teams of six players).

Westmeath Minister of State Robert Troy was in attendance and presented medals to participants afterwards.

More than 200 people were in attendance on the day. In addition to the host community in Athlone, people travelled from Dublin, Limerick, Galway, Longford and Ballinasloe to be part of the festivities.

The Athlone African Community Group thanked everyone who had played a part in organising the event and helping to make it a success.
