New train timetable, with Athlone and Tullamore changes, takes effect on Sunday

Iarnród Éireann's new train timetable, which includes some changes to routes serving Athlone, Clara, Tullamore and Roscommon, will come into effect from this Sunday, December 11,

The changes include the addition of a new service from Athlone to Westport, serving Roscommon, on weekday mornings.

This additional service will depart from Athlone at 07:08, Monday to Friday, and is due to arrive in Westport at 08:56.

Iarnród Éireann said the service would benefit "regional commuters along the line."

In addition, the 07:30 Athlone to Galway service, Monday to Friday, will now commence from Tullamore at 06:50 and will additionally serve Clara.

The current train times between Athlone and Galway will be unchanged.

The new timetable was approved by the National Transport Authority, and follows a period of public consultation, in September and October, in which over 1,550 train customers participated.

An Iarnród Éireann spokesperson commented: "We are pleased to be implementing a number of changes which will benefit existing and new customers across our network.

"Passenger demand continues to strengthen across all routes, and with new carriages currently being delivered, and continuing training of new drivers, we will be able to further enhance services during 2023, including more improvements sought by customers during public consultation."
