Chef Neven Maguire to sample Athlone's foodie scene on new TV series

A visit by Neven Maguire to Athlone to sample some of the area's renowned food offering will form part of his new RTÉ series Neven's Greenway Food Trails.

The celebrity chef from Cavan will be in Westmeath for an episode of the show that will be broadcast on Wednesday week, February 1.

After stops at the Multyfarnham Cookery School and Lough Owel Organic Beef, near Mullingar, Neven will head to Athlone to visit high-grade chocolate-makers Georgia Quealy and Daniel Linehan of Bon Chocolatiers.

Georgia and Daniel will show him "how their luxurious chocolates are made and intricately decorated".

Neven will then call to the Wineport Lodge in Glasson, to meet its head chef Darren Walsh.

On the show, Darren will share his mouthwatering recipe for Slow Roast Pork Belly with a Spice Rub of Oregano, Coriander, Mustard Seed, Caraway Seed, Onion Powder, Smoked Paprika, lime and orange zest.

The episode of Neven's Greenway Food Trails featuring Westmeath will air on RTÉ One on Wednesday, February 1, at 8.30pm.
