Largely dry spell in the days ahead but some rain on Sunday

Weather update from Met Éireann

Staying largely dry through the weekend and into next week, although some outbreaks of rain are expected on Sunday.

That's the latest weather outlook from Met Éireann.

Dry today with good spells of winter sunshine. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in light north to northwest breezes.

Cold and dry tonight with a widespread frost developing. Some patches of mist or fog are also expected in near calm conditions. Lowest temperatures of -3 to +2 degrees, coldest inland.

Frost and fog will gradually clear tomorrow morning as some bright spells develop. It will remain dry through most of the day, although cloud will gradually build from the northwest with some outbreaks of rain pushing in to Connacht and Ulster later in the evening. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in very light southwesterly or variable breezes.

Scattered outbreaks of rain will continue tracking southeastwards across the country on Friday night, becoming confined mainly to Leinster and Munster by morning. Another chilly night with lows of 1 to 5 degrees. Light southwesterly breezes, veering northerly.

Saturday is expected mostly cloudy with isolated outbreaks of rain lingering in Leinster and Munster early on, otherwise dry. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees in very light northwesterly breezes, backing westerly by evening.

Cold and generally dry on Saturday night with light southwesterly breezes. Minimum temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees, lowest towards the southeast.

Sunday will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain, mainly affecting Connacht and Ulster. The best of the dry spells will be in Leinster. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in mainly light to moderate westerly winds, fresher along northwestern coasts.

Dry and partly cloudy on Monday. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees in light westerly winds.

Considerable uncertainty remains for the further outlook, although conditions may turn a bit more unsettled for the middle of next week.
