Westmeath cycling challenge among events planned for Bike Week

Prizes are being offered to the most active cyclists in Westmeath next week in one of the activities planned for Bike Week, starting this coming Saturday (May 13).

The 'Westmeath Bike Week Cycling Challenge 2023', organised by Westmeath Sports Partnership, runs from May 13 to 22 and aims to get as many people as possible out on their bikes, regardless of ability.

Participants are asked to register through Eventbrite and to track their bicycle journeys through their fit watch or app.

"At the end of Bike Week, we will ask you to submit the screenshots of your bike rides and there will be a number of €25 vouchers to be won for a local Westmeath bike shop of your choice, for most distance covered and most rides completed (if distance isn't your thing!)" said Westmeath Sports Partnership.

Other Bike Week events planned in Westmeath include a "Stationary Wheel2Wheel Bike Train" on the Old Rail Trail Greenway at Streamstown, organised by Streamstown Cycle Club, on Saturday at 3pm.

'Accessible biking' and 'pedal power' events are also being organised next week by the Irish Wheelchair Association’s Sunshine Club in Athlone and by St Hilda's Services.

Bike Week is supported by Westmeath Sports Partnership and Westmeath County Council, and over 30 events in total are scheduled to take place in communities, clubs and schools across the county.

Bike Week aims to promote the health benefits of cycling, as well as encouraging people who may not have cycled in a long time to get back in the saddle or those who may have never cycled before to feel the benefits of life on two wheels.
