All-Ireland minor winner appointed Mullingar Shamrocks manager

Westmeath All-Ireland minor winning forward David Martin has been appointed Mullingar Shamrocks senior football manager for the 2026 season.

The former Maryland club player replaces Westmeath All-Ireland U21 winning player Micheál Burke in the role, the club confirming his departure due to "work commitments".

A former Maryland club player, Martin was an integral member of the history making Westmeath minor football team which won the All-Ireland in 1995 and represented the Lake County at all levels during his playing career.

Martin has gained considerable coaching experience to date having worked alongside Damien Gavin with the Westmeath U20 team for six years.

He has also served as TUS Midlands coach for the past five years during which time the college retained its Division 1 status and with it a place in the Sigerson Cup competition.

Martin led Legan Sarsfields to the 2021 Longford Junior county title and has been manager of Milltownpass for the past three years, culminating in a Westmeath IFC semi-final appearance against eventual champions Tubberclair this year.

Martin will be joined by Milltownpass' Kevin Burke as coach as he works towards the completion of his Mullingar Shamrocks senior football management team.

Mullingar Shamrocks reached the semi-final of this year's Westmeath senior football championship where they were defeated by Flanagan Cup champions The Downs.

Mullingar Shamrocks paid tribute to the departing Micheál Burke and his management team whose "incredible dedication" and "attention to detail" leaves the senior set-up "in a very good place".
