Successful joint school production of ‘All Shook Up’

Transition Year students from Our Lady’s Bower and The Marist College took to the stage of the Dean Crowe Theatre in early February to present their joint production of ‘All Shook’ Up, a lively musical inspired by the songs of Elvis Presley. Performed over four nights, the show drew strong audiences and showcased the talent, teamwork and commitment of students from both schools.

The production told a light-hearted story of love, change and community, set to well-known Elvis hits. Months of rehearsals were evident in the confident performances and smooth running of each show.

In the role of Chad, Daragh Murray delivered a confident and charismatic performance, leading the cast with strong stage presence and vocals. Anna Marie Mullan impressed in the demanding dual role of Natalie/Ed, demonstrating versatility and emotional depth throughout.

As Jim, Joseph McSharry brought warmth and sincerity to his role, while Holly Ní Dhonncha portrayed Sylvia with powerhouse vocals, poise and sensitivity. Bláithín Moran gave a lively and engaging performance as Lorraine, and Scott O’Rourke balanced humour and authority effectively in the role of Dean.

Favour Mairead Adetayo brought confidence and vocal strength to the role of Miss Sandra, while Dylan Nicholson provided many light-hearted moments as Dennis. As Mayor Matilda, Katie Meeley brought control and comic timing to her performance, while Eoghan Joyce’s Sheriff Earl added humour and energy.

The wider ensemble and chorus also contributed greatly to the overall success of the show, supporting the leads with energetic group numbers and strong harmonies.

The success of the musical was supported by a committed production team including Director, Colin Hughes, with Ms Danielle Hyland as Musical Director and Ms Rebecca Mooney as Assistant Director. Stage management was led by Ms Ciara Finneran, Ms Rebecca Collins and Mr Dermot Fitzgerald.

Set design was led by Mr Richard Thompson and his student team. Many thanks to the above staff, who worked closely with the cast to develop characterisation and stage movement, prepare the cast vocally and ensure the production ran smoothly behind the scenes.

Sound was managed by Alan John White (APP Corporate Services), while lighting and projection were overseen by Chris Coleman and Keith Farrell. The schools would also like to thank the management and staff of the Dean Crowe Theatre for their professionalism, guidance and assistance throughout the week.

This joint production highlighted the strong working relationship between the two schools. Special thanks are extended to the Transition Year Coordinators, Ms Ciara Finneran and Mr Michael Loftus, and to the management of both schools, for their support in facilitating this collaboration.

‘All Shook Up’ proved to be an entertaining, enjoyable and well-executed production that reflected the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.
