A year of outstanding success for Westmeath ladies football

Westmeath LGFA Awards Night

A crowd of more than 300 gathered in the Bloomfield House Hotel to celebrate a remarkable year for Westmeath LGFA, with provincial success achieved at U14, U16, U18 and Intermediate level. Players, coaches, families and supporters came together to honour the achievements of the four Leinster-winning squads, marking a season that will be long remembered within the county.

The evening highlighted not just the success on the playing field, but also the strength of the wider LGFA community in Westmeath. A special presentation segment acknowledged the invaluable work of volunteers at every level.

Club Officer of the Year: Lynda Somers (Milltown) – award accepted by Karen Walsh.

Young Volunteer of the Year: Aisling Moran (St Mary’s, Rochfortbridge).

Adult Coach of the Year: Brian Murphy (Garrycastle).

Underage Coach of the Year: Lisa Burke (Mullingar Shamrocks).

PRO of the Year: Katrina Brennan (St Mary’s).

School Coach of the Year: Niamh Daly (Mercy Secondary School, Kilbeggan).

Sheila Lyster Award: Ted Cronin (St Loman’s) - award accepted by Pat McCartan.

Each of these individuals plays a vital role in sustaining and developing ladies football across the county, and the presentation offered a moment of well-earned appreciation for work that often takes place quietly in the background.

The Westmeath LGFA Executive was also recognised for its ongoing leadership in the day-to-day running of football activities within the county. Their planning, organisation and support underpin the progress being made on and off the field. A particular tribute was paid to Westmeath LGFA Secretary Paula Finan, who additionally acted as MC for the occasion. Her attention to detail and steady coordination ensured the event ran smoothly from start to finish, contributing greatly to the success of the celebration.

Finally, the players themselves were very much the heart of the evening. The four Leinster-winning panels turned out in style to accept their medals, and the pride within the room was unmistakable.

The sense of camaraderie, confidence and achievement among the girls highlighted not only what has been accomplished this season, but also the promise of what lies ahead.

This was a memorable night for Westmeath ladies football, and one that fittingly honoured a year of outstanding commitment and success.
